We are all very familiar with Steve Harvey's famous "tell all" on a mans secret on how they love called, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man." Well, Hollywood teamed up with Steve and director Tim Story to make a move based off Steve's book called, (wait for it.....) Think Like a Man. With a magnificent cast (in my own opinion) and a few guest appearances, this movie gets a "hands down" all around 5 star from me. So without further ado, Ladies and gentleman (mostly ladies).......
Let's Talk Movies!
Think Like A Man
With Steve Harvey, paying as himself, going on multiple shows and interviews to promote his new book; thousands of women are rushing to get this book. Hmmm (as I think to myself) is this how it really was when he released his book? Of course you have those women out there who make a lot of money and find it hard to find a good man, right? Next, you have your single mothers who are afraid to bring men home (I know, I was one). Then you have women who seem to only attract men who just want sex.
Now obviously in the book, Steve Harvey talks about all the different types of men, but he also talks about the women. However, in the movie, they talk about 4 of the different types of men. I am aware that many of you may have seen this movie, so I will try hard not to spoil it for you as I talk about one of my favorite comedy/romance movies of the year.
In this movie, you have (guys first) Steve Harvey, Michael "Pretty Eyes" Eyes (Dominic), Terrence Jenkins (Michael), Jerry Ferrara (Jeremy), Romany Malco (Zeke), Kevin Hart (Cedric), and Gary Owen (Bennett). Now for those who are wondering who the heck Gary Owen is, you're not the only ones. However, I did realize who he was after watching this the second time around. If you ever watched BET's comedy show, Gary was the guy who always made fun of himself at the beginning of his stand up. One of my favorite lines from him was, "Yeah, I'm from the trailer parks. Double Wide!"
Now the ladies. Taraji P. Henson (Lauren), Regina Hall (Candace), Gabrielle Union (Kristen), and Meagan Good (Mya). Although they were main characters in this film, we also have Wendy Williams (Gail), La La Anthony (Sonia), Chris Brown (Alex), Arielle Kebbel (Gina), and let's not forget Morris Chestnut (James), Jenifer Lewis (Loretta), and Caleel Harris (Duke). Also, we have a few basketball players playing as themselves; Ron Artest, Matt Barnes, Shannon Brown, Rasual Butler, Darren Collison, and Lisa Leslie.
Cedric, the happier divorced, is telling us the story of him, his friends, and the women they have met. Dominic, the dreamer, meets Lauren, the women who is her own man, but she is still in love with James. Then there's Michael, the momma's boy, who meets Candace, the single mom. Next, Jeremy, the non-committer, who is dating and living with Kristen, the girl who wants the ring. Last, Zeke, the player, who meets Mya, the 90 day rule girl.
Alex is a guy who can't seem to remember Mya's name. Every time he sees her, he calls her a different name. He seems to remember that her name starts with an "M," but always manages to tick her off, leaving her with nothing left to say but, "It's Mya asshole!" Despite the fact that there are men out there just like Alex, it's funny to hear her say that. LOL
Lauren wants a good man without lowering her standards. Although James appears to be that guy, I think she is a better fit for Dominic. Candace has Duke (her son), so she's not really sure when she should bring a man home. Michael has his mom Loretta, and she doesn't seem to think anyone is good enough for her son. I guess that's why he stays single. Jeremy has a wonderful girlfriend Kristen who does everything with him, not because she likes it, but because she loves him. Zeke just wants one thing and one thing only, while Mya is sick of dealing with men that always leaves after the first night.
I hope (for those that haven't seen the movie) that I haven't ruined it by saying too much. In fact, I hope it was enough to make you want to go get it and watch it, or go buy it. Trust me, it's worth the money. ;-)
In my opinion, bottom line is, everyone just wants to love someone and be loved in return. This was a great movie. I almost want to get the book, but no need to because I've got my guy... :-)
Well ladies (and gentleman), that's it on this movie, hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed reviewing it. You haven't seen this movie, I encourage you to because it really was a great movie. Til next time,
LET'S TALK MOVIES!!
Next up........
