THE DICTATOR

Ok, so about 28 minutes and 4 seconds in and I'm wondering why I'm watching this.  No intro on this film folks. Let's get right to it........SMH :-(

LET'S TALK MOVIES

At this point, I take back everything I ever said about the Campaign.  This movie was the worst one I've seen this year.  As I close my eyes, put my head in my hand, and shake my head; I'm still wondering why I watched this horrible movie.  O.M.G!!!  Ok, I'm done now.

In this movie you have Sacha Baron Cohen (Aladeen/Efauadh), Ben Kingsley (Tamir), Jason Mantzoukas (Nadal), Anna Faris (Zoey).  The was a few guest appearances like Megan Fox and Edward Norton.  As I am sure many of you have seen this movie (and if you haven't, please save you money for some real comedy)  it's aout a powerful man who loses everything.  While trying to get it all back, he falls in love and signs a constitution  for a democracy and give up being a dictator. Although it had a good plot, this movie just didn't do it for me.  With all the racist and sexist jokes, I just didn't find this movie funny.  Ok, so I laughed like twice, but still, not funny.

It was said by Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times that, and I quote, "Sacha Baron Cohen estabishes a claim to be the best comic film maker now working."  SMH, this man can claim all he wants, but I say, "You're just not that funny. I'm sorry, but no."  Richard Corliss of the Times says,"Infernally funny-killer jokes," and the Daily Mail says, "Verdict: Comic Genius."  Ok, sure if you like that kind of stuff.  Really?   Comic Genius?  Here's my "Verdict,"  EPIC FAILURE.  In my own opinion, just like the movies Da Ali G InDaHouse, Borat, and Bruno (in that order), this movie was on EPIC FAIL. Out of all of these movies, Da Ali G InDaHouse was "the better" one. Although I watched some of Borat, and I do mean some, I just couldn't continue watching it. In fact I told my dad he was on his won. On the other hand, I completely refuse to watch Bruno. I don't even think you could pay me to watch all of Borat nor Bruno.  In fact, the best movie that Sach Baron Cohen played in was Hugo and for that movie I give him 3 stars.  However, for the Dictator, this movie gets zero stars and 2 thumbs down.  There's nothing left to say.

Til next time folks.........

THE EXPENDABLES 2

Is there a such thing as too much action for an action based movie?  Well, when you combined all of these men into one movie, who cares!  With this line up of men, we're going to be here for a while.  Not to mention, you guys are in for a treat.  Starting with the main crew from the first Expendables, we have.........

Sylvester Stallone (Barney Ross), Jason Statham (Lee Christmas), Dolph Lundgren (Gunnar Jensen), Terry Crews (Hale Caesar), Jet Li (Yin Yang), and Randy Couture (Toll Road).  Also in the first one we had short appearances by Bruce Willis (Church) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Trench).  However, in part 2, both actors did a little more than just appear.  In fact, The Expendables 2 brings whole new group of newbies and some "back in the day" faves.  As we continue down this list of bad a**es, we have a couple of new faces like.....
Liam Hemsworth (Billy the kid) and Yu Nan (Maggie).
Then we have our "back in the day" faves....
Jean-Claude Van Damme (Jean Vilain) and Chuck Norris (Booker).  Whew (wiping my forehead), now that that's done, let's get started.

THE EXPENDABLES 2

Now, giving the fact that this movie is still pretty fresh, I'm sure there are plenty of you that haven't seen this so once again, I will try really really hard not to spoil the whole movie.  So much to talk about, where do I start?  Let's just dive right in.
This movie was the shh......(clearing my throat), I'm sorry, let's start over.  This was the best action packed movie of 2012, hands down the best that I've seen so far this year.  I mean think about it for a minute.  You got Rambo meets The Transporter, Universal Soldier meets Fearless, The Terminator meets White Chicks ( I know, I know, Terry  hasn't done any action based movies, sorry), Bloodsport meets The Ultimate Fighter, Die Hard meets The Hunger Games (even if he didn't fight in the first one, he still does later on), and Way of the Dragon meets Shuang Shi ji (yeah, good luck with that one, never heard of it).  Yu Nan is new to me so I looked her up (a.k.a google) and found a few titles I've never heard of.
The movie starts off with a "mean" mission, BOOM!  BAM! CRASH (trying not to give too much away)!  Then Barney gets a visit.  Guess who?  That's right, Church.  Now it's time for the next mission but with a twist.

As Maggie joins the team (briefly) we soon find that she can hang with the big boys and their big toys, in other words (for all you nasty minded people), she can carry her own and very well might I add.  Then there's Billy, a.k.a Billy the Kid.  Billy is a bad ass sniper and does a fine job.  While Booker is pretty good at being the last man standing, Barney makes sure he's the only one walking out the door in his fight against Jean Vilain.  Mean while, during the big shoot out, there was some "bad" jokes, like......

Trench,  "I'm out of ammo, I'll be back."
Church, "You're always coming back, I'll be back."
Trench, "Yippie-Ki-yay."

Then there's another one, when Booker walks passed Trench....

Trench, "Who's next, Rambo?"

To be sure that I don't give too much info on this, I think this is a good spot to stop at.  So I ask again, is there a such thing as too much action for an action packed movie?  Not with these guys.  You be the judge.  If you haven't seen it yet, please do and tell me what you think.  If you already seen it, your comments are always welcome.  I Love My Action Movies.  That's all for now but stay tuned cause there's more to come.  Til next time.......

THINK LIKE A MAN

We are all very familiar with Steve Harvey's famous "tell all" on a mans secret on how they love called, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man."  Well, Hollywood teamed up with Steve and director Tim Story to make a move based off Steve's book called, (wait for it.....) Think Like a Man.  With a magnificent cast (in my own opinion) and a few guest appearances, this movie gets a "hands down" all around 5 star from me.  So without further ado, Ladies and gentleman (mostly ladies).......

Let's Talk Movies!

Think Like A Man

With Steve Harvey, paying as himself, going on multiple shows and interviews to promote his new book; thousands of women are rushing to get this book.  Hmmm (as I think to myself) is this how it really was when he released his book?  Of course you have those women out there who make a lot of money and find it hard to find a good man, right?  Next, you have your single mothers who are afraid to bring men home (I know, I was one).  Then you have women who seem to only attract men who just want sex.

Now obviously in the book, Steve Harvey talks about all the different types of men, but he also talks about the women.  However, in the movie, they talk about 4 of the different types of men.  I am aware that many of you may have seen this movie, so I will try hard not to spoil it for you as I talk about one of my favorite comedy/romance movies of the year.

In this movie, you have (guys first) Steve Harvey, Michael "Pretty Eyes" Eyes (Dominic), Terrence Jenkins (Michael), Jerry Ferrara (Jeremy), Romany Malco (Zeke), Kevin Hart (Cedric), and Gary Owen (Bennett).  Now for those who are wondering who the heck Gary Owen is, you're not the only ones.  However, I did realize who he was after watching this the second time around.  If you ever watched BET's comedy show, Gary was the guy who always made fun of himself at the beginning of his stand up. One of my favorite lines from him was, "Yeah, I'm from the trailer parks.  Double Wide!"

Now the ladies. Taraji P. Henson (Lauren), Regina Hall (Candace), Gabrielle Union (Kristen), and Meagan Good (Mya).  Although they were main characters in this film, we also have Wendy Williams (Gail), La La Anthony (Sonia), Chris Brown (Alex), Arielle Kebbel (Gina), and let's not forget Morris Chestnut (James), Jenifer Lewis (Loretta), and Caleel Harris (Duke). Also, we have a few basketball players playing as themselves; Ron Artest, Matt Barnes, Shannon Brown, Rasual Butler, Darren Collison, and Lisa Leslie.

Cedric, the happier divorced, is telling us the story of him, his friends, and the women they have met.  Dominic, the dreamer, meets Lauren, the women who is her own man, but she is still in love with James.  Then there's Michael, the momma's boy, who meets Candace, the single mom.  Next, Jeremy, the non-committer, who is dating and living with Kristen, the girl who wants the ring.  Last, Zeke, the player, who meets Mya, the 90 day rule girl.

Alex is a guy who can't seem to remember Mya's name.  Every time he sees her, he calls her a different name.  He seems to remember that her name starts with an "M," but always manages to tick her off, leaving her with nothing left to say but, "It's Mya asshole!"  Despite the fact that there are men out there just like Alex, it's funny to hear her say that. LOL

Lauren wants a good man without lowering her standards.  Although James appears to be that guy, I think she is a better fit for Dominic.  Candace has Duke (her son), so she's not really sure when she should bring a man home.  Michael has his mom Loretta, and she doesn't seem to think anyone is good enough for her son.  I guess that's why he stays single.  Jeremy has a wonderful girlfriend Kristen who does everything with him, not because she likes it, but because she loves him.  Zeke just wants one thing and one thing only, while Mya is sick of dealing with men that always leaves after the first night.

I hope (for those that haven't seen the movie) that I haven't ruined it by saying too much.  In fact, I hope it was enough to make you want to go get it and watch it, or go buy it.  Trust me, it's worth the money.  ;-)
In my opinion, bottom line is, everyone just wants to love someone and be loved in return.  This was a great movie.  I almost want to get the book, but no need to because I've got my guy... :-)

Well ladies (and gentleman), that's it on this movie, hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed reviewing it.  You haven't seen this movie, I encourage you to because it really was a great movie.  Til next time,

THE INCREDIBLE HULK

As a kid, I remember watching a t.v. show called the Hulk.  You see back then, the original Hulk was played by Lou Ferrigno.  Since then there have two different movies made based off the show called The Hulk and The Incredible Hulk.  Todays topic will be based off the most recent movie of the Hulk staring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Liv Tyler as Betty or Elizabeth Ross, William Hurt as the General/Thunderbolt Ross, and Tim Roth as the Abomination.  There's also one more cast memer that makes a short appearance but still plays a very important part.  In the moviewe know him as, "Mr. Blue," a.k.a Dr. Samuel Sterns, played by Tim Blake Nelson.  Now, let's go back to the first Hulk.  Bruce Banner/Hulk was played by Eric Bana, Betty Ross was played by Jennifer Connelly, and Thunderbolt Ross was played by Sam Elliott.  Take a moment and think, in the first Hulk, Banner had his father, Brian Banner, who was played by Nick Nolte.  Before I bore you with names, let's get started on the review.

LET'S TALK MOVIES

This vergin of the Hulk is my favorite, however, after watching both of them, I'm a little confused.  Why, you ask?  Because if you remember the first one, Bruce Banner's father was the scientist who developed the serum that made the Hulk and was injecting Bruce with it since he was a kid.  Now think about the most recent vergin of the movie.  Bruce Banner is the Scientist who developes the serum and injects it into himself.  So which one is the correct one?  Honestly, I really don't care, both movies made it a good story.

I did enjoy how at the beginning of the movie, they show you why Bruce ran.  Showing him in the Laboratory chair, strapped in and ready for transformation.  However, turning into this giant green monster isn't what he was going for.  Bruce managed to stay off the grid for about two to three years, working for a factory without being on payroll, at least until his lood ended up inside of a one of the soda bottles.  One of my favorite parts in this movie was when Bruce was trying to help his female co-worker.  Bruce Banner is known for his "Anger," that's how he becomes the Hulk.  With his heart rate reaching 200 plus, he becomes the big GREEN monster.  However, it's the line he says before he changes that gets me everytime, "Don't make me angery.  You wouldn't like me when I'm angery."  In the movie when he trys to say the famous line, but he has to say it in Portuguese.  With Bruce not being very fluent in Portuguese language, it comes out wrong.

"Nao faca de mim com fome.  Voce nao teria como eu quando estou com fome. Wait, that's not right."
In English language, that reads,
"Don't make me hungry.  You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry."

Funny right?  That scene cracks me up everytime.

Later in the movie, the General, a.k.a Thunderbolt Ross, finds a very motivated man whom he believes will finally help bring down the Hulk.   Emil Blonsky, a.k. The Abomination, however, his motivation to bring down the Hulk got the best of him.  Blonsky also went to see "Mr. Blue," that is of course after he tracted down Bruce and Betty.  Not caring what happens to himself, Blonsky threatens Dr. Samuel Sterns to make him like Bruce.  Once that happened, things got a little crazy.  Now, if you've seen the movie, Blonsky doesn't turn green, no, just plain old ugly.  However, he does become a lot more faster and a lot stronger than Hulk.  In fact, Blonsky became something more, something that the General himself couldn't handle nor take down.  At least not without Bruce Banner's help.  Blonsky's goal was to bring down the Hulk and he did......Well, almost.   When you get Bruce really mad, no one can stop hime, not even the Abomination.  Not to say that the Hulk can't be defeated, just saying it will be very difficult.  Let's just say he will put up a hell of a fight.

If I haven't stressed it enough already, I love action packed movies.  I will have to admit, there probably could have been a little more action.  However, with the way the plot was put together, there was plenty of action for me.  I mean think about it, you had the scene in the factory, which by the way, did anybody realize that was the first time "The Hulk" spoke?  Then you had the scene at the school, very awesome.  Then the scene in the streets with the "Abomination" which ended on a roof top.  You gotta love the huge hand clap.  In my Hulk voice, "Hulk Smash!!"  Although he doesn't say that in the movie, it's still one of my favorite lines from him.  Now, with all that eing said, until Hollywood finds a way to screw up a Hulk Movie, this one gets 4 1/2 stars.  As if they could screw up such a movie....Ha! Ha! Ha (Serious look, narrowing my eye).  That's all for now but stay put cause there's plenty more where that came from.  Also, rumor has it, the Incredible Hulk 2 (or 3, which ever they decide to go with) should be coming out near the end of 2014 or sometime in 2015.  I don't know about you, but I'm a Hulk fan and I plan on seeing that one as well.  Until next time my Marvel Fans...........
