Premium Rush

Ok, so I had a little time on my hands and decided to go see a movie about bike messengers.  Seems lame right?  Who would want to go see a movie about a bunch of kids or adults caring packages on a bike?  Well, when the package is something that can get you killed and the fact that these messengers can ride almost as fast as the cars in this movie, you better believer that I would go see that movie.  Today's topic.......

PREMIUM RUSH

LET'S TALK MOVIES!!!!!

If you haven't seen this movie don't "rush" to off to the movies for it.  Besides, I don't think it's in theaters anymore anyway.  I would wait a while for this one to come out on DVD.  Don't get me wrong, the movie was good......umm......it was "ok."  So, if you're wondering who's in it, let's get started.   In this movie we have Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Wilee), Dania Ramirez (Vanessa), Wole Parks (Manny), Michael Shannon (Bobby Monday), Jamie Chung (Nima), Christopher Place (Bike Cop), Kin Shing Wong (Sudoku Man), Aasif Mandvi (Raj), and Anthony Chisholm (Tito).

Like I said, I movie was ok.  It wasn't half bad.  You have Wilee, who seems to be the fastest messenger in New York.  At least it seems that way to everyone but Manny.  Manny is you typical jealous guy who wants everything Wilee has.  From the very pretty Vanessa (girlfriend), right down to his title of being the fastest biker messenger.  Yes, I said title.  At some point in the movie, they show a part where all the bikers form all the messenger companies get together at a bar and declare a title for the fastest biker.  I guess that's one reason to call the movie Premium Rush.

With the title being what it is, I feel that this movie was rushed.  I mean sure, it had it's normal movie running time, 1hr and 30min, but there was barely any down time.  When it was over, I felt like I had only been there about 10min.  Aside from all of that, I did enjoy the way the movie started.  It starts with Wilee getting hit by a cab and then hitting the ground.  I know that sounds bad but then they show the time and rewind back and show us what happened before the run in with the cab.  The other parts that I really liked was how Wilee could find an exit through all the traffic, except of course the one when he and the cab go to know each other a little better.

Wilee is being chased by on NYPD who's name is Bobby Monday and has some serious issues.  Did I mention some anger management problems?  Bobby is having one hell of a day.  Bobby is your typical "I need to borrow money from a long shark" gambler.  You already know where this is going, right?  So they make a deal with him.  There is word that there is a ticket worth $50,000, if Bobby can retrieve the ticket, his debt will be whipped clean.  However, Wilee and the rest of the messenger don't make it very easy for him.

As the day progresses, Wilee has been chased and nearly killed by Bobby while at the same time being chased by NYPD's Bike Cop.  Whom by the way Wilee out runs every time.  That is of course until the Bike Cop gives up.  After nearly getting killed, Wilee is ready to turn around and give back the package, until Nima tells him the truth behind this $50,000 ticket.  At this point, he has a change of heart and tries to get the package back so that he can be sure it makes it to the right person.  After chasing after Manny and racing Manny, Wilee and Vanessa get the ticket back for their friend Nima.  This is when Wilee and the cab meet.  Needless to say, Wilee realized this was too much for him and his girlfriend to handle alone and seeing as how it is the NYPD chasing them, they couldn't really get the police involved.  So, they called in the Calvary and Nima did what she was told to do when she purchased the ticket.  Nima was told not to get the police involved and if there was any problems, she was to call a number and let them know so they could take care of it themselves.  There's a happy ending in almost every movie.  In this one, every bike messenger company came together to help one of their own and the ticket made it to where it was suppose to go.  Althought Wilee, Vanessa, and Nima got their happy ending, Bobby Monday wasn't so lucky.  This movie gets 3 1/2 stars from me.  That's all for now, til next time folks.........

I know, I know, I'm late......Taken 2

SPOILER ALART!!!!!!!!!!                SPOILER ALART!!!!!!!!!!

Although this wasn't as good as the first one, it still had me on the edge of my sit.  With that being said, I won't bore you with an intro, today's topic.......
TAKEN 2

LET'S TALK MOVIES!!!!!!

OK, now you all have seen Taken, right?  If you haven't you should.  Let's take a quick review, shall we.  In Taken, we had Liam Neeson (Bryan Mills), Famke Janssen (Lenore), and Maggie Grace (Kim).  There were a lot more but I'm keeping this short.  Kim goes out of the country with a friend, meets some random guy, goes to the friend's house, and gets kidnapped.  Now in the process of getting "taken," she  calls her dad, Bryan, and tells him that she's made there safely, as she turns around she can see everything that's going on.  As she explains to Bryan what's happening, he's packing things up.  To sum this up, Bryan eliminates everyone in his path to get his daughter back.  Taken was a 5 star movie for me and was worth buying the movie on DVD, or if you have a blu-ray player, then it was worth buying it on blu-ray.

Now, Taken 2 of course has the same main characters as well as Rade Serbedzija (Murad Krasniqi), Luke Grimes (Jamie), D.B. Sweeney (Bernie), Jon Gries (Casey), and Leland Orser (Sam).  Now as you all should know, Sam, Casey, and Bernie are all good friends with Bryan.  However, they're not really in this one but you do see them about 2 times.

The movie starts with Bryan going to Lenore's to pick up Kim.  However, Kim isn't home and Lenore tries her best to lie about where she is.  Bryan soon finds out and goes to pick her up at her boyfriend's place.  As Jamie answers the door he tries to introduce himself once Bryan lets him know that he is Kim's dad.  Highly embarrassed, Kim storms out and drives Bryan and herself back home.  Kim is still struggling with the fact that she was taken so she tries to live a normal life without fear.  As Kim and her mom, Lenore, try to plan a vacation with Lenore's husband, but something goes wrong and he cancels on them.  When Lenore explains this to Bryan, he invites them to his business trip.  Letting Lenore know how long the business part of it would take, he also let's her know that he can get them an extra room and they can stay a few days and enjoy some vacation time as a family.

Just as Bryan finishes his last and final meeting he attempts to call Kim to see if they were coming.  As he is in the middle of his message, his daughter surprises him.  Now, before any of that takes place, there is a funeral going on.  Remember those men Bryan killed in the first movie?  Well, their bodies were finally sent back to their country and this was their funeral.  Remember the guy Bryan had tied up to a chair and electrocuted him?  Well, his father, Murad Krasniqi, wants revenge for his son's untimely death.  While Bryan, Lenore, and Kim try to enjoy their vacation, Bryan noticed a guy watching them, so Bryan proceeded with caution as he and Lenore left the hotel.  Leaving Kim behind (which was part of her plan), Bryan and Lenore head out to enjoy the day.  However, that was short lived.  Bryan noticed a vehicle following them since they left.  He tells Lenore to get out and gives her directions back to the hotel.  Sadly, she doesn't make it that far.  Lenore was taken.  As Bryan trys to get away, he ends up fighting a few men.  Finding himself surrounded, he noticed Lenore with a gun to her head.  At that point he called Kim and told her.......
"Kim, Listen carefully, you mother and I are about to be taken, and soon you will be too....."
In short, he tells her to get to safety.  When he hung up, he smashed the phone and tossed the gun and was jumped by the guys that were surrounding him.  With a sack over his head not knowing where he was going, he began to count the seconds, right up until he heard something each time or until they stopped.  He heard a bell, a man playing an instrument, and a dog barking.  When he came to again, he was tied up hanging by his hands just barely on his knees.  At that moment he also saw Lenore on the ground.  He manages to still have a way to call someone in case of an emergency.  Bryan pulls out this small, one button, square phone with a very small screen.  This phone only displayed numbers and was a (I think) phone only.  So first he tries his friend Sam at home, but he gets the answering machine.  His next call is his daughter.  Kim wants to help her dad so that everyone gets home alive.  Bryan tries so hard to say no, but even he knew she was his best shot at getting out alive.  Bryan can hear someone coming so he hurries off the phone.  Murad and a few of his goons come in and have a chat with Bryan.  As Murad explains to Bryan why this is happening to him and his family, he tells Murad why he killed those men and why he killed Murad's son.  Murad didn't care, that was his son and he wanted justice, he wanted revenge for his son, revenge for his family, and revenge for his people.  One of his goons puts a small cut on Lenore's neck and hung her upside down which causes the blood to drain faster and for her to pass out.  His goal was for Bryan to watch Lenore die, but we all know that wasn't going to happen.  Bryan manages to break free and get Lenore down.  He calls Kim back and tells her to throw a grenade up high where there were no innocent people standing, so that he can see if he can hear it.  Once he heard the boom from the grenade, he was able to tell Kim which way to go.

The closer she got, the more dangerous this got for her.  When she threw the last grenade, he knew she was close.  Bryan made it to where white smoke was coming out from a building.  When Kim got to the building, she threw a gun down the whole.  Time was running out for the both of them.  The last grenade set off some alarms for the goons, so they went to check it out.  Two or  three chase Kim while others go check on Bryan and Lenore.  They noticed Lenore on the ground and not hanging upside down anymore.  Then they noticed Bryan was missing, or at least they thought he was.  Bryan came from another end of the room once he was able to retrieve the gun and shot all of them.  Bryan takes out everyone in the building.  He even chased the men that were chasing Kim.  However, when he came back for Lenore, she was gone.  Unfortunately, Murad and three other guys got to her first.

Knowing how dangerous this mission is, Bryan's main concern is getting Kim to safety.  Kim is the driver in this scene because, as Bryan puts it, she can't shoot.  As they're being chased, Bryan has Kim crash right into the U.S. Embassy.  To ensure they don't get shot down, Bryan takes out his small phone and calls Sam on his cell.  He informs Sam that they're in some trouble and crashed into the U.S. Embassy and needs him to make a call so that they stay alive.  Once everything is worked out, Bryan heads back out to save Lenore.  As he eliminates more men in his way, getting closer and closer to Lenore, it begins to look like he has met his match.  Bryan has to face one last guy before reaching Murad.  During this brutal fist fight, it almost looked like he had this look on his face that read, "I'm getting too old for this shit."  However, in the end, Bryan is the last man standing.  When finds Murad, he trys to reason with him because he knows it will be a never ending battle with their families.  Bryan wants to end the feud so that he can go home with his girls and Murad can go home to his other sons and grandchildren.  Murad agrees and Bryan tosses the gun and starts to walk away.  With his back to Murad, he hears the empty clip of the gun click.  Murad had no intentions on letting Bryan walk out of there alive.  You see Bryan's not stupid.  So he turns back around, shows Murad the bullets in his hand and then smashes Murad's head in the wall up against faucet.  Yeah, he's dead.

Bryan gets the girls home safely and Kim passes the drivers test.  To celebrate, they go out for shakes.  The only problem is there's one too many shakes at the table.  Lenore has invited Jamie, Kim's boyfriend.  In a playful manner, Kim and Lenore keep asking if it's ok for Jamie to be there.  Of course Bryan allows it and ask Jamie to have a seat as the properly introduce themselves.
Always with the happy endings.  This movie was great, I give it 4 1/2 stars.  That's all for now folks, til next time..........

(LATE, I KNOW) LOOPER

SPOILER ALART!!!!!!!!                SPOILER ALART!!!!!!!!

Ok, so despite the fact that I'm late with this movie, on September 28, 2012, a futuristic, time traveling movie came to the theaters.  Although it was nothing like Back to the Future or the Time Traveler's Wife, it did bring a different perspective to how things could turn out in the very near future.  Just not quite the same way.  With that eing said, todays topic is

LOOPER

LET'S TALK MOVIES!!!!

As always, we start with the actors and actresses along with their characters.  Starting with the two main leads, we have Joseph Gorden-Levitt (Joe) and Bruce Willis (old Joe).  With them is Emily Blunt (Sara), Pierce Gagnon (Cid), Paul Dano (Seth), Frank Brennan (old Seth), Noah Segan (kid Blue), Piper Perabo (Suzie), Jeff Daniels (Abe), Qing Xu (Summer), and Garret Dillahunt (Jesse).

The year is 2044 (or somewhere close) and there are people called Loopers who assassinate people from the future.  These people have blocks of silver or gold strapped to their backs and put in the time traveling machine.  Now if a Looper finds gold strapped to the back of the person they assassinated, that meant that they were done with being a Looper. Sort of like a retirement.  Why, you ask?  Because the just assassinated their future selves.  When I saw this, I thought that if you killed your future self, you would disappear.  Not in this movie.  As long as you killed your future self, you retire as a looper and hope to continue living for at least 30 more years, if you're lucky.  If not, well then you end up like Seth.

Seth got his person, however he did not kill old Seth.  Seth's older vergin of himself starts saying things only he knows (unfortunately we don't get to hear it).  As Seth stands there looking lost, old Seth asks for a cigarette and then runs.  Seth trys to hide while old Seth trys to run, but neither of them are lucky enough to get away.  No, instead Seth turns to the only friend he knows, Joe.  Joe agrees to help Seth for a short time.  When Joe see Abe, Abe makes things very clear to Joe.  Abe is willing to give Joe a scond chance but only if he gives up his friend Seth.  Joe sees no other way out, so he tells Abe where Seth is.  When Seth is captured they find a way to get old Seth as well by torture, and old Seth meets them somewhere to finish the job as his body starts to disappear.
Kid Blue is a young guy who is desperate for Abe's approval.  Kid walks with a limp because he shot his foot.  Kid is also the guy Abe calls when someone doesn't kill their mark.

Joe desperately wants to help this stripper/whore who happens to be a single mother named Suzie.  Unfortunately, she turns him down.  Joe wakes up the next day to do his job, only his mark is late.  When his mark arrives, the man's face isn't covered like all the others and this makes Joe freeze.  When the man raises his head, Joe knows it's his future self and attempts to finish the job but gets knocked out.  At first, this scene looks like a dream to me because when Joe is found and falls off the fire excape, they jump back to him waking up again for another days work.  Once he's at his spot and waiting for his mark, the man shows up again, only this time he's on thime and covered.  Joe does his job and kills his mark, never revealing the man's face, he rolls him over and sees the gold and then, at that moment, he knew he had killed himself.  From there, he parties to celebrate his retirement and moves to China.  He got a job with what looks like a mob of some sort.  As Joe got older, he finds a woman that changes everything for hime, her name is Summer.  She makes things better for Joe and they get married.  However, her role was short lived.  When a group of 3 or 4 men show up to take "old" Joe away, Summer is killed right in front of him.  When he fights for his life, he enters the time machine and there stands Joe.  Before Joe shoots, he realizes his mark isn't wearing a mask and it was at that very moment when he knew who that was.

A very short fight broke out between the tow of them, it ended with old Joe knocking out young Joe.  When young Joe woke up, he noticed a note in his pocket that, in short, read, "Run!"  Of course young Joe didn't want to run, he wanted his life back.  The first thing young Joe does is he trys to get to his stash of silver but he's a little too late for that.  Kid and some other guys were already there.  As Joe trys to run, Kid catches hime and Joe manages to lock Kid inside of the safe.  Just whn it seems he can make a clean break, Joe is caught again by one of the other guys.  Lucky for Joe, old Joe was outside waiting, wondering why Joe didn't do what he was told, why he would think he could run home first.  With both of them on the run for two different reasons, Joe comes up with a plan to lower old Joe to the dinner he always goes to after he finishes the job.  Old Joe tells young Joe how one of his friends figured out what was going on in the future that was changing the past.  This friend gave hime some numbers that was linked to 3 babies that was born on the smae day in the same hospital.  These 3 kids still lived in the same city.  The difference between all 3 of them is one of them is very smart yet so very dangerous.  The smallest amount of fear or anger can set this kid off.  Old Joe's plan is to kill this kid so that he cna continue his life with Summer.  However, things get a little too complacated.  While both of them are still on the run, young Joe starts to get sick because of the drugs had taken, he was beginning to have withdraws and stumbeled across a home in the fields.  This home has one of the 3 children Joe is looking for.  This is when Joe meets Sara and her son Cid.

You learn that when a peron relives the same life over and over agin, they tend to remember the things that have happened before.  Take Cid for example, Cid knows that when he gets older, he plans on changing the world.  Finding a way to it better due to all the "voilence" from the past.  One of Cid's memories is one that no child should ever have to wittness which is seeing his mother's death.  It's this memory that has Cid convenced that he is going to change things forever.    Has it clicked yet?  Are the pieces coming together for you?
At the same time that young Joe is protecting this mother and child, old Joe has already killed one of the three kids on his list.  Since there was no change in his future, he knew that wasn't the kid.  As he makes his way to the next kid, he recongizes the kids' parent.  It's Suzie, the stripper and her kid.  When he gets ready to make his move, young Joe, Sara and Cid get a visitor from the Looper business.  Young Joe recongized him and called him Jesse.  Infoming Sara that Jesse won't hessitate to kill her if she makes a move.  While Cid is upstairs being quiet, Jesse and Joe have a conversation.  Jesse didn't want to kill nor bring Joe in to Abe, so he was willing to let Joe go as if he never saw him at Sara's place.  However, they were interupped by Cid walking down the stairs.  Catching Jesse off gauard, he points his gun at Cid which scares him and he steps down on the next step the wrong way and falls down the stairs.  Jesse releases his gun when he realizes it's just a kid, Joe trys to catch Cid before he hits his head on the ground, and Sara tackles Joe all the way out the house.  I know what your thinking, why wouldn't she let Joe save her son, or why didn't she save him herself?  Well, Cid needed no saving because, if you haven't figured it out yet, Cid is the ultiment weapon.  It just takes fear or anger and this kid makes sure you don't wake up the next day.  How you ask?  With his mind and a very powerful scream.  His mind controls gravity, so first lifting everything off the ground and then comes the very powerful scream.  When Cid screams, it's very high pitched making things, or in the case, Jesse explode.  It was at that moment when both young and old Joe knew which kid it was.  Old Joe finds out because anything that happens to the young vergin of yourself, your future self gets or remembers.  However, in the middle of trying to get rid of another child, old Joe gets caught by Kid Blue.    Kid brings Joe to Abe.

Now earlier in the movie, you learn that it is Abe that gives Joe the Looper job.  So, I guess you could say that because of Abe, Joe is a pretty damn good shooter, he never misses his mark.  With that being said, Abe's biggest mistake was putting a gun in a very young Joe's hands and teaching him to be great, no, the best at this job.  Abe paid for that mistake when old Joe killed everyone including Abe, well almost everyone.  When he was finsihed, he continued to his mission and made his way to the field.  Young Joe, still determined to keep Cid alive despite what he knows about the kid and what he is capible of doing.  Needless to say, Kid Blue finally dies at the hands of young Joe while old Joe makes his way to Cid and Sara.  From a distance, young Joe starts to remember everything from his future.  As Sara continues to stand in the way and protect her son even though he doesn't believe she is his mother, at least not until this very moment.  Once again, Cid gets very scared and begains to control gravity, lifiting both Sara and old Joe in the air.  It takes the soft and calm voice of Sara to calm him down and that's when he knew that she was his mom.  Once Cid is calm, Sara tells him to run as she continues to block Joe form killing her son.  While young Joe was keeping them safe, Cid told him how his mother dies.  Cid said his mother was killed by a man.  It was at that moment when young Joe realizes that it is him, his future self that kills Sara.  She said to Joe, things will be fine as long as he has me.  Sara believes that as long as she is around, Cid won't change things, he be "bad."  So, to end it all, instead of just killing his future self, he kills himself.  Turning the gun away from old Joe and turning it on himself, he pulls the trigger and old Joe disappears.  Leaving both Sara and Cid safe and with a truck load of silver bricks.

I give this movie a 4 star rating.  I enjoyed this, it was different, but still enjoyable.  It didn't have a whole lot of action to it, but I'm ok with that.  What I liked the most was the part when old Joe gets brought in by Kid and starts shooting up the place.  It had a kind of Die Hard kick to it.  ;-)
Well folks, that's all for now, but stay tuned cause there's more coming.  Til then.........
